TRANSPORTATION ASSISTANT (PERSONAL PROPERTY/INSPECTOR)


Qualifications:
In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Clerical and Administrative Support Positions. SPECIALIZED
Experience:
Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-06, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of Specialized experience must include:
knowledge in the overall Defense Transportation Systems functions, regulations, policies, methods and practices as pertains to storage and shipment of personal property; knowledge of the carrier industry, such as rates, tariffs, operating authority, practices and procedures, and specialized shipment needs to identify appropriate shipping methods, essential equipment, services and/or special handling, requirements; knowledge of transportation regulations governing a wide variety of interrelated or nonstandard transportation requirements as pertains to the shipment of personal property/household goods; knowledge of transportation and related systems, routing, inspecting, rating, carrier facilities, transit time, and entitlements on shipment. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs):
Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
1. Knowledge of the full range of transportation policies, practices, and techniques to include knowledge of personal property movement, personal property entitlements, carrier industry practices, international, state and local laws, and operations for shipping and storage within the transportation function. 2. Knowledge of the different instructions, regulations, directives, local operating procedures, and governing entitlements, concerning shipment and storage of personal property in order to run and track a quality program. 3. Knowledge of various office automation software programs, tools, and techniques to support office operations and produce a variety of documents such as letters, reports, spreadsheets, and databases. 4. Skill in fact-finding, problem analysis, problem resolutions, and development of solid action plans to resolve problems. 5. Ability to gather, analyze and present facts, and communicate effectively, using tact and diplomacy. 6. Ability to plan, organize work, and meet deadlines. PART-TIME OR UNPAID
Experience:
Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK
Experience:
Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
