HEALTH SYSTEM SPECIALIST

Experience:
Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-07, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes knowledge of established medical principles, practices, requirements, procedures and regulations and their application in a military health care setting primarily for active duty members as they relate to the specialized practice of Aerospace Medicine; knowledge of overall medical service and individual medical treatment facility organization, management, mission, purpose, programs, related requirements in various administrative areas, philosophy, and objectives on a practical level, as well as an understanding of the JCAHO, AAAHC, and HIS standards and DoD instructions; knowledge in the area of analyzing, evaluating, interpreting, and applying medical standards to general military population, aviators, and other special operational duty personnel as well as the different functions and motivations of various employees and groups involved. OR Education:
Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position such as hospital administration, public health administration, or related fields such as business or public administration with course work in health care administration. Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in- grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-07 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-09 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs):
Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
1. Knowledge of established medical principles, practices, requirements, procedures and regulations and their application in a military health care setting primarily for active duty members as they relate to the specialized practice of Aerospace Medicine 2. Knowledge of overall medical service and individual medical treatment facility organization, management, mission, purpose, programs, related requirements in various administrative areas, philosophy, and objectives on a practical level, as well as an understanding of the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO), Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC), and Health Services Inspection (HIS) standards and Air Force and DoD instructions. 3. Knowledge in the area of analyzing, evaluating, interpreting, and applying medical standards to general military population, aviators, and other special operational duty personnel as well as the different functions and motivations of various employees and groups involved. 4. Skill in use of military medical computer software such as Armed Forces Health Longitudinal Technology Application (AHLTA), Composite Health Care System (CHCS), Preventive Health Assessment and Individual Medical Readiness (PIMR), Aeromedical Information Management Waiver Tracking System (AIMWTS), and Physical Examination and Processing Program (PEPP). 5. Ability to provide and coordinate detailed consultation services and advice to, and gather information from, health care professionals, paraprofessional personnel and non-medical personnel 6. Ability to analyze, evaluate, reconcile contradictory requirements in, and draw conclusions from multiple sources of medical and technical information. PART-TIME OR UNPAID
